High School Alumni Association

Class of 1965

Armed with the 'mantra' Just Get It Done, the MC Riley Class of 1965 graduated forty-eight students; ten of which completed their high school requirements via night school. The Class of 1965 was the largest graduation class to dawn the cap and gown at MC Riley.

Alonso Phoenix, Curtis Howard, Irvin Campbell, Marion Young, Charles Young III, William Wright, Franklin Campbell, John Henry Murray, Edward Huggins and Morris Brown all entered the military ranks upon graduation. Irvin Campbell entered the military as a 'commissioned officer' (2nd lieutenant) after graduating from Savannah State College; he retired as a Major after a distinguished military career. Alonso Phoenix died on the battlefield during the Vietnam War, on October 20, 1968. Charles Young III, William Wright and Curtis Howard also served a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Estella Grant-Aiken, Sandra Bush, George Bush, Murray Christopher, Irvin Campbell and James Mitchell, all earned college degrees. Estella Grant-Aiken, George Bush, Jr. and James Mitchell earned degrees beyond the undergraduate level.

As of May of 2022, twenty 1965 classmates are deceased, leaving twenty-eight to continue that all­ powerful 'mantra' - Just Get It Done!
