Chap, grades 1st through 12th, ‘never missed a school day’ – an unbelievable feat! Of course, unbelievable feats are what he would become known for. For instance, he scored his first basket as an 8th grader, on a Morrison’s coached Hawks’ team; he was co-captain of the 1963 Hawks team that was the first to score 100 points, against Lincoln High School of McClellanville, SC; was co-captain of 1964 State Championship team that went undefeated in the State of South Carolina; led the Hawks to two State Championships, Single ‘A’ Championship in 1963 and ‘All State Championships' in 1964, all first feats for the Hawks; he holds the scoring record for the National Basketball Tournament for Black High Schools, at 42 points, with a two-game average of 31 points; for the same tournament, made the All-Tournament 1st team and he was the first MC Riley athlete to attend college on a full athletic scholarship.
