Leonard 'Lynn' Brown was a member of MC Riley graduating class of 1960. He attended SC State College from 1960 to 1962; he was a drummer on State's marching band and 'bass guitarist on the 'concert band.' In 1962, a little-known pop/rock band, Les Cooper and the Soul Rockers were on their college tour; they played at both Clafin College and SC State - in Orangeburg, SC. It was at SC State Duke's Gymnasium that Lynn caught the eyes of the band owner and leader, Les Cooper. Lynn was asked to fill in for the band's bass guitarist who had fallen ill. Cooper was so impressed with Lynn's bass guitar playing skills, he fired his 'bass guitarist' and hired Lynn as his 'bass guitarist' and song writer. Thus began Leonard 'Lynn' Brown's musical career. Later that year (1962), the band went on to record their only big hit - Wiggle Wobble. Being true to his beloved school - MC Riley, Lynn brought the band to Bluffton and played in front of a packed gymnasium - free to all students. Before leaving town, they played in front of a paying crowd - at Troy's Juke Joint.
With the Impressions Lynn was known as Lenny Brown; he joined the group in May of 1965. As with the Les Cooper Band he was a 'bass guitarist and song writer' with the Impressions. He wrote June Conquest's big hit Take Care and The Amazers' hit, Without A Warning. He collaborated on and wrote many of the Impressions hits in the mid and late 60's. The Impressions were touring with Jackie Wilson in 1968 when three of The Impressions' band members, Lenny Brown, Billy Griffin and Joseph Thomas, were in a fatal car accident near Winder, Georgia. They were on their way to Greenville, SC to perform a concert - Lenny Brown, a MC Riley 1960 graduate, "a promising but short-lived life."
